Tonight was my new puppy's first night at home. I say he had a pretty good night's sleep. Of course it cost me a lot...well, let me explain.
We knew we'd have to wake up at 4 to take our new puppy 'Tank' out. Joanna (my 10 year old sister) and I both willingly volunteered. Hey, we couldn't resist spending a little extra time with our new dog.
So bedtime came, we put Tank in his new crate...closed the door...would Tank be that perfect puppy we've always dreamed of- that circles around a few times, finds a comfy postition, and falls asleep as soon as head hits pillow?
No such luck.
Tank whined. He cried. We ignored him until he started barking. Fearful of waking someone up, we let him out and played with him some more.
Joanna and I had planned on sleeping in the living room, which is right next to the kitchen, so we could hear Tank if he needed to go out. Well, I'm not sure whose idea this was, but somehow the idea was brought up: "Why don't we sleep with him on the kitchen floor so he doesn't get lonely?"
I'm sure Mom or Dad would have objected, but they were both asleep and had no say in the issue, so it was decided: Jojo and I would sleep with Tank.
Oh, the crazy things I do for my pets.
I gave up the comfort of my bed. The privacy of my bedroom. I gave up a good night's sleep for my dog.
Okay, aren't dogs supposed to sleep at the foot of your bed? Well, not Tank. He lay down right beside me. Aww, how sweet, I thought. The thought quickly passed.
Tank fell asleep right away. My goodness, that dog snores like a maniac!!! I couldn't stop laughing. I have never in my life heard someone snore as loudly as my Tank.
And I thought my sister flops around a lot. I think I got a good half hour of sleep. That was it. Somehow Tank pushed me off my pillow and he laid down on top of it. Brat.
I've always loved dogs. I have waited for the day to come when I would own one for years. Well, I never really thought about the puppies' first night at home. I never would have imagined me on the kitchen floor. It's a good thing he's cute. I say the dog is gonna be spoiled if we keep this up.
Okay, so now it's four, time to go out, and that dog is still snoozin' over there. Oh for crying out loud. Someone had better teach that dog some manners.
Well, that's all I have to say about my new dog. Check back around lunch or whenever I've caught up on sleep, I'll tell you just how awesome he is.
